Laxman Jhula is a famous hanging bridge over the Ganges River that connects two villages, Tapovan in Tehri. Located in the city of Rishikesh in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, the entire bridge is made of iron, is 450 feet long and stands at a height of 70 feet above the river. it is still used by pedestrians but two wheelers are strictly not allowed.{01} Lakshman Jhula is famous among tourists as it is believed that Lord Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, crossed the river Ganges at this place.The construction of the bridge was completed in the year 1929, and currently, the Lakshman Jhula serves as a bridge across the river along the old route to the holy temples of Badrinath and Kedarnath. Grand temples and famous markets have sprung up in the surrounding area, and the entire area is now a particularly famous attraction throughout Rishikesh.{02} The important places around Laxman Jhula include Terah Manzil Temple, Lakshman Mandir and Ram Jhula and the entire area reverberates with the sounds of mesmerizing chants and shlokas from the temple.
Things To Do :-
If you go to Rishikesh, then do not forget to cross the Lakshman Jhula. On either side of the bridge you will find markets where you can buy a variety of things including wooden items, rudraksha, idols of deities, sacred texts, gems, local jewellery, clothes, semi-precious stones and other knightly-skills.
Attractions :-
Another thirteen storeyed temples, called Terah Manzil, is also situated near Lakshman Jhula. The top floor of the grand temple offers a beautiful view of the surrounding environment. According to the locals, around the Jhula is the Lakshmana Temple with Rishabh Kund, where Lord Rama and Lord Lakshmana took a bath after killing the demon Ravana to wash away their sins. This temple is also a must-visit. Other prominent temples near Laxman Jhula include Sacha Akhileshwar Mahadev Temple and Shri Raghunath Ji Ka Mandir.
