The Taj Mahal :- The Taj Mahal can be reached through the East, West and South gates. Inside the grounds, ornamental gardens are set on classic Mughal charbagh lines (formal Persian gardens). The memorial stands on a raised marble platform at the northern end of the garden, with its back facing the Yamuna River. Its raised position is a masterstroke design as it leaves only the sky as its backdrop. Each corner of the stage is decorated with 40 meters high white minarets. The Taj itself is made of semi-translucent white marble, inlaid with thousands of semi-precious stones and engraved with flowers. The four distinct faces of the crown are in perfect symmetry, with pietra dura scrollwork and impressive vaulted arches bearing Quranic quotes. There are four small domes atop the whole structure.

The graveyard of Mumtaz Mahal is just below the main dome. It is an elaborate false tomb surrounded by a beautiful marble curtain inlaid with a variety of semi-precious stones, which offset the symmetry of the Taj. Light enters the central hall through finely cut marble curtains. These tombs are false tombs masquerading as the real tomb of Mumtaz Mahal, and Shah Jahan is located in a closed room below the main hall.

To the west of the complex is a red sandstone mosque which is an important meeting place for the Muslims living in Agra. There is a similar building to the east, which was built to maintain symmetry. Within the Taj is the Chota Taj Museum which houses many original Mughal miniatures. Its primary attraction is a pair of 17th-century ivory paintings of Emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. There are also some Caledon plates, which are said to split or change color if the food served on them contains poison.

History :- The Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631 while giving birth to their 14th child. The construction of the Taj began in 1632. The main building was completed in eight years, but the entire complex was not completed until 1653. Soon after the completion of construction, Shah Jahan was overthrown by his son Aurangzeb and imprisoned in the Agra Fort. For the rest of his life, he could only look at his wondrous creation through a window. Shah Jahan died in 1666, after which his mortal remains were buried here along with Mumtaz.

Facts :- There is a well-publicized story that the Taj Mahal was a Shiva temple built in the 12th century which was later converted into a monument to Mumtaz Mahal. He filed a petition to open the sealed basement rooms to prove his theory, but it was rejected by the Supreme Court in 2000. Another story is about the famous black Taj Mahal. Many believed that Shah Jahan had planned to build an altered image of the monument on its opposite side in black marble, work for which had begun before his son Aurangzeb was imprisoned. Extensive excavations were carried out at Mehtab Bagh, but no trace of any such construction was found.

A famous legend associated with the Taj Mahal is the mutilation of the artisans who built it. It is believed that upon completion of the construction, Shah Jahan ordered the hands of the craftsmen of the project to be cut off so that no building in the world could be so beautiful again. However, there is no historical evidence to support this theory.

Night Time :- The viewing of the Taj Mahal at night takes about 30 minutes in 8 batches of about 50 people between 8:30 pm and 12:30 pm. Therefore, only 400 people are allowed in a night.

While visiting the Taj Mahal at night, visitors are required to reach the Shilpgram complex half an hour before their scheduled time. They are not allowed inside the monument at night and can see the Taj Mahal from a short distance. All luggage and belongings are to be deposited at a security counter before the night darshan begins. Video cameras are not allowed inside the monument during night viewing. .

Garden :- The garden that adorns the monument of love starting from the entrance and extending to the base of the tomb is one of the major attractions of a visit to the Taj Mahal. The concept of this garden (popularly known as Paradise Garden) built in the Persian Timurid style was brought by Babur. A unique feature followed while constructing this garden is the use of the number four and its multiples. This was done because four is considered the holiest number in Islam. The enchanting garden is divided into four parts, consisting of two marble canals with fountains in between. Each quarter of the garden has 16 flower beds, each with 400 plants. The Taj Garden is full of lush green trees, chirping birds, fruits, flowers and symmetry, which reflects the abstract meaning of heaven. This quirky setting makes a wonderful backdrop for those perfect shots.

Best Time :- The best time to visit the Taj Mahal is undoubtedly the sunrise when it looks at its most majestic. It is also the most comfortable time to visit due to less crowds. Another magical time to see the Taj is at sunset. You can also visit it for five nights around the full moon. However entry tickets are limited for this time, and must be purchased a day in advance from the Archaeological Survey of India office..
