Hawa Mahal, also known as the Palace of Winds, was built in the 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh of the Kachwaha Rajput dynasty. It was constructed in 1799 as an extension of the City Palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The main purpose of building Hawa Mahal was to provide a place for the royal women to observe street festivals and everyday life without being seen themselves, as they followed the strict purdah system (the practice of female seclusion).
