Sanchi, a small town in Madhya Pradesh, India, is home to several historical and religious sites. Here are some of the popular places to visit in Sanchi:
1.Sanchi Stupa:- Constructed during the 3rd century, the famous Sanchi Stupa stands as a testament to Sanchi's illustrious history. It's also recognized as a World Heritage Site and eloquently showcases the area's deep-rooted cultural significance, impressive architecture, and the profound heritage linked to Buddhist art and aesthetics.
3. Udayagiri Caves:- Udayagiri is named after the sunrise and is a well-known ceremonial site for Hindus, housing twenty rocky hollows close to Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh. It's also called Vishnu Padagiri, which stands for "Vishnu's feet." These caves feature intricate carvings of Hindu deities such as Vishnu, Durga, and Shiva, showcasing epic tales of these Gods and their holy spots. The Udayagiri hills are home to twenty caves that celebrate Hindu and Jain beliefs, dating back to the Gupta period. The standout cave is number five, renowned for its remarkable, age-old sculpture of Lord Vishnu as Varaha, the Boar-Headed form, saving Bhudevi, the personification of Earth.

2. Sanchi Museum:- First found on a hilltop near the Sanchi Stupa by Sir John Marshall in 1919, the Sanchi museum has since moved to the base of the stupa. It is now looked after by the ASI and showcases a wide range of Buddhist relics uncovered during the site's clean-up and digs at Sanchi. The doors of the museum were thrown open to visitors in 1966 after its relocation. Spread across more than 6 acres, the venue includes a large central hall and four galleries that display items ranging from the 3rd to the 12th century BC.
In its showrooms and central space, there are numerous sculptures, inscriptions, and historical objects from the dynasties that held reign over Sanchi for over a millennium, starting with King Ashoka, who erected the Stupa in the 3rd Century BC. While most of these finds came from Sanchi itself, others were uncovered nearby. Visitors can explore the museum every week from Saturday to Thursday, between 9:00 . and 17:00 . (it's shut tight on Fridays). The entrance fees are INR 30 for locals and INR 250 for tourists from overseas.
