The central idea behind the cathedral's architecture is debated to this day. It is still not known to this day what inspired Burma and Postneck Yakovlev to come up with their designs. The cathedral was initially built in white but painted in bright colors and patterns as we see today in the 17th century. The layout has 8 smaller churches around a central 9th church, in contrast to the usual 7 surrounding the centre.
