It is – at the same time – a heritage hotel, a museum and the residence of the royal family of the current owner, Raja Gaj Singh. Apart from being a historical landmark, the palace was commissioned in 1929 to provide employment to the drought and bereaved farmers of the region and thus took longer to complete. The award winning hotel is renowned and loved for its hospitality and luxurious living experience. It was recently in news for being the site of Bollywood superstars Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas - a famous pop star of the band - One Direction.
Presently this 347-room palace is divided into three parts. One part is the residence of the royal family, where tourists are not allowed to enter. The other houses a museum that displays a rich collection of royal family photographs, weapons, clocks, stuffed animals and many other possessions. The third part of the palace has been converted into a five-star hotel and provides best-in-class services to its customers. This is one of the most popular hotels in Jodhpur. Perched atop the mighty Chittar Hill, this palace is also often referred to as the Chittar Palace.
