✬ leh palace Observation ✬
✬ Leh Palace, also known as 'Lachen Palkhar', is a former royal palace of the 17th century and is one of the central attractions in Leh. Built under the patronage of King Sengge Namgyal, it was the home of his family. The nine-storey Doon Rang palace now houses a museum and a prayer hall, while the sweeping view of Leh and the surrounding Zanskar Mountains from the terrace is the main attraction. ✬
✬ The Leh Palace is modeled on the Potala Palace in Lhasa (Tibet), and is now in ruins due to the Kashmiri invasion of the 19th century. The beauty of Leh Palace still stands proud with many ancient Buddha relics, paintings, old pottery, cutlery used by the royal family and artifacts adorning the walls, most of which are around 450 years old. ✬
✬ The palace looks even more amazing when it is illuminated on some special occasions, such as the Galdam Namchot festival when locals gather around the palace to celebrate the local festival. The majestic palace is currently under the Archaeological Survey of India, which is working on the restoration of ancient structures from that era and trying to preserve the history of the Namgyal dynasty in Leh. ✬
