Famous for its escorts and Ayurvedic massage centre, Kovalam is a coastal town located about 13 km from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. The largest beach in Kovalam is Lighthouse Beach which has a 30 meter tall lighthouse. The other two adjacent beaches are Beach Beach and Hawa Beach. These three beaches are crescent-shaped shallow water and low tide beaches.Previously a fishing village, Kovalam began to attract tourists in the 1930s and gained prominence in the hippie era of the 1970s. It still sees an influx of tourists from Israel and Europe.
Ayurvedic treatments and massages are one of its most popular indulgences, along with yoga, meditation, as well as other cultural activities. Kovalam probably comes full circle as it is also a shopping destination given the rich spices, wooden sculptures and handicrafts that can make a popular takeaway.

One of the most popular freshwater lakes, Velliyani Lake is located 7 km south of Kovalam in Trivandrum, Kerala. Veliyani Lake is also known as 'Veliani Kayal' in the regional language Malayalam. Spread over 7.5 acres, this lake is an important water source for irrigation and drinking purposes.
Vellayani Lake is on the premises of the Vellayani Agricultural University which is also a tourist attraction. It is ideal for an evening walk with the cool breeze and the lotus blooming on the lake that rejuvenates any passerby. Vellayani Kayal gives a nostalgic feeling to anyone who wants to experience the goodness of a village away from the city life.

Located in Kovalam (southern Kerala), Lighthouse Beach is known for the 35 m tall Vizhinjam Lighthouse situated on top of Kurumkal hill. The lighthouse is built entirely of stones and is painted in red and white bands. Visitors love to reach the top of this tall structure by using the spiral staircase to click some memorable pictures.
Lighthouse Beach is a perfect place to enjoy water activities and sports like surfing, parasailing and paragliding. The beach is also known for its lush green palm gardens and trees spread throughout the area. Easy accessibility, delicious food and affordable accommodation add to the charm of this place.
