Humayun's Tomb New Delhi India

As the name suggests, Humayun's Tomb is the last resting place of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. Situated in the Nizamuddin East region of Delhi, it is the first garden-tomb of the Indian subcontinent. This magnificent piece of architecture was commissioned for construction by Humayun's chief wife Maharani Bega Begum in the year 1569–70 and is one of the very few structures to have used red sandstone on such a large scale at that time. The design of Humayun's tomb is a typical Mughal architecture with Persian influences and was conceptualized by the Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyath. Due to its splendid design and illustrious history, Humayun's Tomb was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in the year 1993.It is difficult to miss the architectural brilliance of Humayun's Tomb. This magnificent mausoleum is situated in the middle of a vast, ornate Mughal Garden and its beauty only increases during the winter months. Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, this tomb is also home to the remains of several other Mughals, including those of their wives, sons and descendants of the later emperor Shah Jahan, as well as many other Mughals.
