Located at a distance of 40 km from Agra city primarily made of red sandstone, Fatehpur Sikri was founded by the Mughal emperor Akbar in the 1571 century. It is essentially a fortified city built by the king and was the capital of his empire for fifteen years. it is home to Jodha Bai's Palace, Jama Masjid, Buland Darwaza and Salim Chishti's Tomb besides many other famous monuments.A unique blend of religious beliefs along with architectural excellence - is the essence of Fatehpur Sikri. It was built by Akbar to honor Sheikh Salim Chishti, whose prediction of the birth of a Mughal successor came true when Akbar was visiting the then city of Sikri.He also built three palaces for each of his favorite wives, one Hindu, one Muslim and one Christian.
